PSA on Women’s Body Hair

Body image. It’s everything in America and only now are people beginning to discover the harsh realities associated with the term “body image”. It holds more than just a person’s image, but rather an entire concept, an entire culture behind it, an entirely new way of thinking. It has embedded itself in American culture much like burgers and fries. It is synonymous with beauty, and is surely a way to make a woman squirm in her own skin. In this video, this young lady explains the difference between beauty and naturalism. What is natural is usually considered beautiful, right? But is it? American’s claim to like natural beauty, but then why are men so concerned if women have hairy legs? Why must women shave under their arms and around their pubic area to be found attractive? Why is it that smoky eyes attract men, while pale, untainted lashes go unnoticed? What makes a woman’s skin glow better than sweat? Why must a woman disguise her odor with fifty different shades of lavender? (yes, that was a reference to the book) Most importantly, why is this okay? You tell me.
